The no-confidence motion moved against Aldona sarpanch Sandra Rodrigues was successfully passed by 8 votes to 1 on Monday morning.

When discussion on the no-trust motion was taken up in the morning, nine of the 11 panch members were present at the meeting.

Seven panch members who had moved the no-confidence motion remained together, even as two panchas aligned with the sarpanch “ Deepak Naik and Jerry Noronha “ remained absent. Sarpanch Sandra Rodrigues was present for the meeting.

When the motion was finally put to vote, sarpanch, Sandra Rodrigues was voted out 8 against one vote. The opposition group of seven got an extra boost when Thomas Tavares sided with them to vote out the sarpanch.

Senior panch Freddy Pontes proposed the no-trust motion while Ursula D’Souza seconded it.

Deputy Sarpanch Charudatta Panjikar presided over the meeting.

Seven panch members - Charudatta Panjikar, Harish Mayenkar, Trisha Naik, Freddy Pontes, Ursula D’Souza, Jyotsna Nagde and Vallabh Polle - had moved the no-confidence motion against the sarpanch.

Sandesh Naik from the BDO office was the observer at the meeting.

The post of the sarpanch in Aldona is reserved for women. In the 11-member panchayat, four panch members are women and all four have got a shot at the post of sarpanch in the current term.

Sources disclosed that the group aligned to the sarpanch desperately tried to win over some of the disgruntled members from the opposition group, but were not successful.

The opposition group is yet to decide its choice for the next sarpanch.
