As heavyweight Alexio Sequeira made his way into the Cabinet, the third time in his political career spanning close to three decades, the five-time MLA has started his innings by apologizing to the constituents of Nuvem for having joined the BJP over 14 months ago after leaving the Congress along with seven other MLAs.
He, however, hastened to add that it was the only option left for him to fulfill the commitments made to the people of Nuvem during the last elections and that was to join the ruling BJP dispensation.
Fielding queries from the media on Sunday morning after he was tipped to be inducted in the Pramod Sawant Cabinet, Sequeira thanked the people who had supported him in Nuvem. “There are couple of people who are upset with me for having joined the BJP. I apologize to them. I don’t know whether they will forgive me for whatever I had done. I genuinely apologize to the people”.
On whether he has any plans for Nuvem constituency after becoming a Minister, he said time will speak, saying he would try and fulfill the commitments made to the people during the 2022 Assembly election. “The Chief Minister has promised to back me to fulfill my commitments. I had given a promise to the people of Majorda and Betalbatim to lay the underground cabling during election and the Chief Minister CM has launched the works”, he said.
On the controversial new Borim bridge passing through Loutolim village, Sequeira said he does not think that his Ministership will make the issue any easier, for the simple reason that the project is proposed by the Union government. “I will have to depend on the Chief Minister to resolve the issue. I have already spoken to the CM. I will fight for the cause and stand by the people to ensure that no house goes for demolition,” he said.
