A Colvale jail inmate’s bid to escape was thwarted on Wednesday afternoon after an alert jail staff noticed him scaling the inner wall of the prison.
The inmate who has been identified as Pradeep Khalkho was brought to the jail two days ago by the railway police.
The prisoner who was found to be mentally unstable has been referred to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) at Bambolim.
Jail officials informed that the incident happened at around 3 pm when the prisoner who was lodged on the first floor of the jail premises attempted to escape by jumping over the inner wall of the premises.
Unfortunately for the inmate, the IRB staff posted on the watch tower noticed him jumping the wall and alerted the other jail staff who acted swiftly and caught him.
The prisoner sustained minor injuries while trying to scale the wall and jump over.
Additional Inspector General of Prisons, Vasudev Shetye informed that prisoner unsuccessfully attempted to jump across the inner wall of the prison but was timely spotted by the jail staff.
“The prisoner appeared to be mentally unstable. We have referred him to the IPHB for treatment,” Shetye said.
