Alert youth catch man with drugs at Calangute

An alert group of youth from Gaurawada-Calangute caught a man from Odishs but presently residing at Shelpe-Mapusa with 520 grams of ganja worth about Rs 25,000 and handed him over to police.   

Police later arrested the accused, Loknath Mistry (30) in the connection.  

According to sources, the incident took place near Newton’s supermarket at Gaurawada in the wee hours of Wednesday, when some local youth found the accused moving suspiciously in the area for past 3 days on his scooter (GA-03-AK-2725).  Ar about 12.30 am on Wednesday, locals intercepted the accused and asked him to open his scooter’s dicky.  

When he refused to do so, a crowd gathered at the site and assaulted him. The accused then opened the dicky and locals found 21 small packets of ganja.   The youth then alerted Calangute Police and a policeman took custody of the accused, besides seizing the scooter and the ganja packets.   

Meanwhile, the Calangute police maintained that a police team had conducted the raid and had arrested the accused. They claimed no locals were involved in nabbing the accused.
