Hours after the Congress batted for the GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar and Opposition leader Digambar Kamat to lead the party in the coming election, newly-appointed party Working president Alexio Sequeira said no section of society should feel alienated or threatened, saying the Congress party will stand by all sections of people.
Sequeira’s statement assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of fears expressed in the party that absence of a Catholic face in the scheme of things of the Congress leadership may alienate the party core base in the coming election.
“We are here to work for all sections of society. If any section of society feels alienated or threatened, let me assure you, the Congress party will stand by you and try to resolve your issues. Let me assure you, there is nothing to be feared about. We are strongly with our and with your cooperation and guidance, we will work for a better Goa”, he told the media during his visit to the South Goa district
He added: “Be rest assured, we will represent all sections of the society. We will not represent this section or that section. We are here to represent everybody. No one feel neglected or taken for granted. We will take up all issues”.
Assuring a brighter future for the children of Goa, Sequeira appealed to the people to join hand to achieve the goal of getting the Congress party to power in 2022.
While accepting the responsibility bestowed on him by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Sequeira assured that the Congress party will work as a team, exuding confidence that the party will form the government in 2022.
Meanwhile, Alexio Sequeira said he would not shy away from contesting the 2022 election from Nuvem if given the ticket, while adding that the High command will take a call on the question of alliance with like-minded political parties.
“If I am not given the ticket to contest from Nuvem, I will work for the candidate nominated by the Congress party”, he said.
