CORTALIM
Backing the government’s plans to set up a garbage treatment plant at Verna IDC, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha said the locals need not fear of any hazard emanating from the plant as it would be along the lines of the Calangute-Saligao garbage treatment plant.
“In fact, many people visit the Calangute-Saligao garbage treatment plant and school students even go for picnics near the site and there have been no complaints whatsoever from any quarter,” Saldanha said.
“I also intend to take my constituents to see the garbage treatment plant at Saligao, so that they are convinced about the positive effects of the plant,” added Saldanha.
It may be recalled that the government had recently announced setting up of a garbage treatment plant at Verna IDC to take care of the garbage of the whole of Mormugao taluka.
Earlier, Saldanha launched the hot mixing of roads amounting to Rs 1.39 crore at Piedade ward in Arossim and said the hot mixing works will also be undertaken in Butem, Prial wards of Cansaulim.
The MLA said Goa had a good name as far as quality of roads is concerned and attributed it to the BJP government.
Heeding to requests of locals, Saldanha agreed to re-install speed breakers, which were removed in the run up to the BRICS summit. She also requested the villagers to ensure the road are kept clean and urged the Cansaulim Panchayat to take care of the garbage and keep the surroundings clean.
Cansaulim panchas Xaverito D’Costa, John Fernandes, Velsao Panch Fatima Pereira, government officials and
the locals were present on the occasion.
