the goan I networkrMARGAO rrDistrict police chief, Superintendent of police, South Arvind Gawas told The Goan that all the 11 desecration cases, involving 10 crosses and a Nandi and Tulsi Vrundavan at Lord Krishna Temple, Margao stands detected. r“Oh yes, the police has cracked all the desecration cases reported in the taluka from June 7,” SP Gawas informed. rWhen asked why the accused had desecrated the Nandu and Tulsi Vrundavan at Lord Krishna Temple when he says that he was desecrating the crosses just to release the souls trapped inside, SP Gawas said that the accused believes in a particular ideology and has been allegedly targeting structures of all religions. r“After the interrogation of the accused, I can say with confidence that the accused was involved in the desecration of the 11 religious structures in Salcete. Our investigations indicate that the vehicle belonging to the accused was found to be in the vicinity of the desecrated structures at night,” he said. rPolice sources said that mining data obtained by the police have also revealed that the cell phone used by the accused, thus indicating that he was present in the same place where the desecrations occurred. rSalcete had recorded the spate of desecrations beginning form June 7 when vandals had targeted a cross at Chandor bordering Assolda village. Four more desecration incidents occurred in Chandor and Paroda villages in quick succession, on June 18 and later on July 2, including the Alma Khuris which was desecrated twice. rWhile the desecrations were all along concentrated in the Chandor-Paroda region, three more desecrations took place in Curtorim, behind Power House Aquem and at the Lord Krishna temple, Margao. Before the miscreants returned to Margao to desecrate the cross at Calconda installed in memory of late PSI Simon Fernandes, the miscreants had desecrated two crosses at Loutolim on July 13.rDGP commends police efforts in proberCURCHOREM: Hailing the success of police operations in nabbing the accused in the desecration cases, DGP Muktesh Chander congratulated the police teams involved in the investigations and later tweeted: “After very meticulous and painstaking efforts, Goa Police has been able to solve the recent cases of desecration of religious places in Goa.” rA visibly pleased Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral announced a Rs 50,000 reward to the police teams involved in the probe. rLater speaking to mediapersons, DGP Chander felt the need for greater CCTV coverage in places like markets, religious sites, schools, etc. “Such types of acts cause communal tensions and creates anger in society. The police will conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter,” assured DGP Chander, as Curchorem police were investigating the case under the supervision of SP Arvind Gawas. rThe Curchorem police booked the accused for offences under Sections 295, 297, 427 IPC. He was later produced before the JMFC court at Quepem and remanded to three days in police custody.
