All clear for multi-level car parking facility in Panaji

GTDC pays `46 lakh fine, CCP to issue occupancy certificate

PANAJI
The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) is likely to start its multi-level pay parking facility soon with the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) all set to issue them the occupancy certificate for the multi-level car parking facility near Santa Monica jetty in Panaji.
Speaking to The Goan, CCP Mayor Surendra Furtado confirmed CCP receiving an amount of Rs 46 lakh from GTDC. The fine was imposed on GTDC due to the non-renewal of construction licence.
“We have received the money already and we will issue the occupancy certificate on Wednesday,” said Furtado.
Though the soft launch of the facility was held in the month of May this year, it was not opened for the public
due to want of occupancy
certificate.
While the CCP had demanded that the GTDC pay Rs 46 lakh of penalty only after which occupancy certificate would be issued to the project, GTDC Chairman Nilesh Cabral had asked CCP to waive it off as it was in the interest of the capital city of Panaji. But, with the CCP being adamant on its demand, GTDC decided to pay the amount so that it could start the facility as early as possible.
The facility is expected to address the problem of traffic congestion, especially the tourists who flock to the casinos in Mandovi River and boat-rides.
Spread over 13,556 sq mtrs, the multi-level car-park has ground, plus three floors, and over and above that it even has a terrace, where cars can be parked as well. Overall, 462 cars can be parked at this car park. Besides, additional 33 cars can be accommodated in the open space outside the building.
