All eyes on PDA-stakeholders meeting for solution to traditional fishermen’s issue

MARGAO
All eyes are focused on the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) as the planning body is expected to call a meeting with the stakeholders in a day or two to work out an amicable solution to the issue of traditional fishermen demanding space in the wholesale fish market to sell fresh fish.

The meeting is expected to take place against the backdrop of demand made by PDA Member and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat that the traditional fishermen should be accommodated inside the wholesale fish market. The meeting also assumes significance with Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas sounding the bugle for an agitation if the SGPDA does not accommodate the traditional fishermen in the wholesale fish market.

SGPDA Chairman, MLA Krishna Daji Salkar told The Goan on Sunday that a meeting with the stakeholders will be called soon to discuss the demands of traditional fishermen and how best to resolve the issue. “The SGPDA and the MMC has acted in and around the wholesale fish market as per the High Court directions. If any stakeholders have any grievances, they are also free to approach the Court. But, at the same time the PDA will hold a meeting with the stakeholders to find an amicable solution,” Salkar said.
