Retail trade continues unabated at wholesale fish market

The SGPDA has officially shut the wholesale fish market and the illegal retail trade outside the market at 10 am.

Hold on. Don’t be surprised if you come across a rush of fish buyers at the exit gate of the wholesale fish market, with fish buyers making a beeline outside the gate to buy fish from vendors sitting inside the market.

In fact, the fish buying and selling was noticed at the market exit gate on Sunday noon, throwing up a question or two whether the SGPDA has opened the market for fish business after 10 am.

While the vendors selling fish appeared to be retail fish vendors, questions are being asked why the market is also not thrown up for the traditional fishermen, bringing catch from the sea for sale at wholesale rate. “All these issues will be discussed and deliberated upon after the PDA holds a meeting with the stakeholders in a day or two to find an amicable solution,” PDA sources informed.
