MARGAO
All eyes were focused on these three Independent candidates, who filed their nomination papers for the Velim, Navelim and Nuvem ZP seats in minority Salcete on
Tuesday.
Reason. Since two of these three constituencies are presently represented by Congress-turned-BJP MLAs, Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues and Wilfred D’Sa, the focus was on the three candidates, as scribes tried to find out whether they are being backed by two ruling party MLAs as the BJP is unlikely to field candidates on the party Lotus symbol.
While the trio, Cipru Cardozo (Navelim), Anthony Rodrigues (Velim) and Dr Breezy Barretto (Nuvem) evaded a direct query whether they have the backing of the two MLAs, they certainly said they would seek the support of the MLAs as well as the people for their candidature.
