With the State IT policy in place, government has drawn up plans to restore various department websites in the State.

State IT Secretary Ameya Abhyankar informed that government will very soon appoint a designated agency to maintain all government websites.

“A file has been moved for government approval to appoint Goa Electronics Ltd (GEL), as the agency to maintain all government websites in the State. Within the next 15 to 20 days, it will be cleared,” Abhyankar said, while speaking to The Goan along the sidelines of a function at the DMC college in Mapusa.

He said once government grants its approval, all departments will be taken up for website development through a single agency.

“Once a single agency is given the task to look after all the websites, that will ensure all websites are continuously updated,” he said.

He disclosed that GEL has a standardised format in terms of template, colour scheme, font size, etc. to create a uniform user experience for any person visiting a government website.

Currently, many departments are yet to host a website and those that boast of having one have not been updated for months, if not years.

While some are maintained by the departments on their own, many are maintained by different agencies.

However, all central government departments are maintained by the National Informatics Centre (NIC).

There are around 84 departments in government of Goa.

The IT secretary further said that government’s IT policy was meant to help IT companies and entrepreneurs, interested in setting up IT multiples.

“One of the key areas of focus is to have human capital asset to make sure that enough skill development happens and there is enough of outreach to students to help them to build their skill sets in different areas of technology,” Abhyankar said.

He said the focus was to create a very strong talent pool which will attract the companies to come to the State.

“When you create strong talent pool, it will ensure that companies find there is enough talent to come and set up shop in Goa,” he added.

He stressed that there was also need to provide robust internet connectivity for small and medium businesses and to ensure that there is similar connectivity for educational institutions where such talent is being incubated.
