The recovery of the “leather belt” at the Assolna police outpost which was allegedly used to assault victim Clint Rebello reportedly emerged as the clinching evidence to point accusing fingers at the erring policemen.

Sources in the know said that during the inquiry, the five policemen vehemently denied their hand in the assault on Clint at the Assolna police outpost.

Inquiry Officer DySP Raju Raut Desai and Cuncolim police station in-charge, PI Sudesh Naik, decided to visit the Assolna outpost late Tuesday night.

During the search of the outpost, the inquiry officer stumbled upon the “leather belt” which was found in one of the rooms. Sources said that the police later called victim Clint to the Assolna outpost and was asked him to identify the weapon of assault among other items. Clint is believed to have immediately pointed to the leather belt.

Meanwhile, the victim of the police brutality Clint has welcomed the decision to place the five Cuncolim police personnel under suspension, but maintained that justice will be done to him only after “false case registered against me by the Cuncolim police is withdrawn.”

“I am happy with the decision of the police to place the five policemen under suspension. They were all responsible for mercilessly beating me up at the Assolna police outpost on Sunday evening without any rhyme or reason,” Clint told The Goan moments after news spread that DIG Paramaditya had placed the five policemen, including PSI Mahesh Velip, under

suspension.

He, however, reiterated his demand that the Cuncolim police withdraw the “false case” registered against him.

Clint and his lawyer Adv Adonis Colaco had visited the Cuncolim police station on Wednesday, but could not meet any officials.

They also came to the district headquarters to call on the district police chief, Arvind Gawas, but the SP South too was in Panaji.

Clint said that he along with his lawyer will call on the Director General of Police (DGP) Muktesh Chander with a plea to withdraw the false case registered against him.

The Cuncolim police registered an FIR against Clint shortly after the incident on Sunday, booking him under section 353 and 504 of the IPC for assaulting the policemen.
