A youth from Chicalim was arrested by Vasco police on Wednesday evening on charges of shooting a friend with an air gun and seriously injuring him at Chicalim.
According to Vasco PI Nolasco Raposo, the incident occurred at the residence of the accused, Jackson Fernandes (23) on October 8.
“At around 10 pm, Fernandes without taking proper care and caution fired an air gun as a result of which the pellet of the air gun got embedded in the face of Abbas Ali (35), a native of Mumbai but residing at Vaddem, causing him grievous injuries,” said PI Raposo.
“The motive of the crime is unclear, but the accused is believed to have fired an air gun in a drunken state while having drinks along with Shaikh and two other friends.”
Vasco police have arrested the accused under Section 338 IPC and he is presently in police custody, PI Raposo added. Sources informed that Shaikh was shifted to GMC hospital where he underwent a surgery to remove the pellet from his face.
