Raising concern over Karnataka getting clearance for Kalsa-Bhandura water project from the Environment Ministry, former Minister and MG party MLA Sudin Dhavlikar on Friday demanded that all 40 MLAs and 3 MPs should resign en masse to pressurise the central government to revert its decision.
He also demanded that all the and the MPs should now decide on an action plan on the issue.
“Mhadei is our lifeline. Farmers and other people survive on the river water. There should be no compromise on the issue. If we want to save Goa and Goemkarponn all parties should take the issue seriously. All, the MLAs, including the CM, and the three MPs should resign,” Dhavalikar said in a press conference on Friday which was held at the MGP office in Panaji.
He also said since the issue was serious, his party will mobilise people to protest aganist the Centre’s move.
He alleged that the Goa BJP government had failed to protect the State’s interests in spite of having a strong majority of 27 MLAs. Plus same party government rules at the centre, he mocked.
Dhavalikar also rubbished the government’s claim on sound financial position. “In seven months we have taken Rs 1000 crore loan. The government should come out with figures of how much is the exact spending of the state and how much is the loan,” he demanded.
He challenged the government claim that loan has been taken only for capital works. “Today we are paying Rs 125 to 175 crore as interest and the instalment on loans availed 10 years ago,” Dhavalikar said.
He said the government has no money and many of the contractors’ payments have been kept pending.
He alleged that many works like the Zuari to Verna highway, NH66 highway expansion, Anmod to Molem highway work, Borim bridge maintenance have been delayed.
He also opposed the move of giving government land to private agencies on PPP mode.
