MARGAO
Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly Ramesh Tawadkar has on Friday said that every member of the Goa Legislative Assembly, be it ruling or opposition, should get the opportunity to raise questions during the Assembly session.

Speaking to the media on the side lines of a programme at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Friday, Tawadkar further said that the system governing the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Legislative Assembly has not changed in any way. “I am of the strong opinion that all the ruling MLAs should get justice. I cannot give all the time for the Opposition to raise questions,” he said.

UTAA issue

Fielding questions on UTAA, which has been in focus over the decision of the South District Registrar restraining UTAA chief Prakash Velip from functioning as the president, Tawadkar reiterated that he had severed all ties with UTAA in 2012. “I have been working on the ground right from Canacona to Pernem. One who is connected with the people need not have a particular banner to do social work,” he added.

Loliem Comunidade land row

On objections raised by people of Loliem to the host of projects proposed on Comunidade land, the Speaker said projects have been proposed on the Comunidade land only after discussions and deliberations. He said a memorandum of understanding has been inked with the Entertainment Society of Goa to set up a film city on the Comunidade land.

“We have decided to set up only non-polluting projects on the Comunidade land, which will provide employment to the local unemployed youth,” he said.

Tawadkar further said that agro-based industries will also be set up on the Comunidade land to give a boost to agriculture and allied activities. “We have approved the projects by taking the public into confidence after discussing the projects at the gram sabha,” he added.
