PERNEM
Taxi operators have warned of an agitation at the main gate of the Manohar International Airport on April 19 if they are not allotted taxi stand by April 18.
Stating this while speaking to media persons in Pernem on Monday, leader of the taxi operators Sudip Tamhankar accused the government and Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar of failing to allot a taxi stand at the Mopa airport.
“If this issue is not resolved by April 18, all taxi operators in the taluka will launch an agitation on April 19,” warned Tamhankar.
He said the taxi operators have already submitted a memorandum to the chief secretary in this matter, with copies submitted to the transport secretary, director of transport, assistant director of transport and member secretary of Road Transport Authority at Pernem.
Tamhankar alleged that the government had allowed an illegal counter at the Mopa airport which is being operated.
“But those taxi operators who wish to do genuine business are not being permitted to do so. All three taxi organisations in Pernem are united and will jointly fight for their rights,” he added.
