In a bid to save almost 80 houses that would have faced demolition to make way for the Margao ring road, the State Government has proposed an alternate diversion which will involve the demolition of only one residential house.
In a submission before the Bombay High Court at Goa, the Public Works Department through the Advocate General told the court that the original plan involves an obstruction of about 79 houses.
However, considering the expense and inconvenience involved in removal of this obstruction, the State now proposes a slight diversion in the route, the Advocate General said.
“This alternative has only one obstruction, namely, a single residential house. Learned Advocate General states that the State Government shall remove this obstruction within a reasonable period and in any event, within a period of two months from today and thereafter, will complete the unfinished portion of the ring road, so as to finally connect it to the National Highway (NH-17),” the High Court noted.
“These statements, which are noted and accepted, should take care of the issue of balance construction of the ring road around Margao city,” Judges S C Gupte and Nutan Sardessai said in the order.
The court then adjourned the matter to July 15 by which date, it expects the State Government to file its affidavit placing on record up-to-date status on both the Western bypass of Margao as well as the ring road of
Margao.
