Amidst the suspense over the exact health condition of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and intense speculation over his continuance in office, top ruling party sources said the national president Amit Shah has called a meeting on Wednesday in Delhi with coalition partners and the party’s core committee.
Shah will confabulate
with the coalition leaders
to help him take a final decision on sorting out the political and governance conundrum thrown up by the prolonged and continuous absence from office of Parrikar due to his treatment and health condition.
In Goa, meanwhile, the BJP held a 3-hour meeting of MLAs, office-bearers and MPs at its headquarters in Panaji in a feeble bid to showcase that all is well in the ruling dispensation.
Apart from denying all speculation on Parrikar’s health, BJP’s Goa unit president, Vinay Tendulkar, said little about the discussions that took place at the meeting, or about whether any strategy to resolve the impasse was deliberated at all.
Most political leaders from the ruling coalition also preferred to maintain a nervous silence, with some continuing to insist that Parrikar was recovering.
Tendulkar himself pleaded that “rumours” floating around should not be believed and that after two days rest, he would begin meeting with party leaders, MLAs
and ministers.
Refuting all the rumours about instability of the government, Tendulkar said that the BJP-led coalition will complete its term.
The Chief Minister’s health is improving and he is advised to take rest for the next 2 days, Tendulkar said.
“All alliance partners are with the government and it will complete its full tenure,” he added.
He also said that there is no intention to dissolve the legislature and maintained that the rumours that the Lok Sabha and assembly elections will be held together were baseless.
