With the High Court setting aside the recent ward reservations for the upcoming civic polls in five municipalities, GPCC Vice President Sankalp Amonkar on Monday demanded the resignation of Urban Development Minister Milind Naik.
In a related development, Amonkar’s wife, Shraddha, who is among the two petitioners from Mormugao in the HC case, has filed a caveat on the ward reservations with the Supreme Court.
Addressing a news conference at his office, Amonkar said Urban Development Minister Milind Naik was to be blamed for the mess over reservations and the injustice done to all women and people from the SC, ST and OBC.
"We had pointed out that reservations were done wrongly and it has just been proved. Though many were unhappy over the ward reservations, only my wife, Shraddha, and Shanti Mandrekar filed a petition from Mormugao Taluka.”
“I had faith in the judiciary and I thank the high court for the justice. This is a victory for the petitioners, women of Goa and members of the SC, ST and OBC.”
“The court decision proves that ward reservations were done wrongly which had hurt people especially in Mormugao constituency, since not a single seat was reserved for women while our panel had already decided to field three women candidates from Mormugao constituency," said Amonkar.
Claiming that the government’s manipulation had been exposed, Amonkar said the BJP had been willing to win elections hook or by crook.
“The government’s plan has now backfired. We are also prepared to go to Supreme Court in case the matter is challenged in the Supreme Court.”
“We demand that Urban Development Minister Milind Naik either resign on moral ground or he should be sacked by the State government for having failed to handle the urban development ministry which led to this mess,” said Amonkar.
Meanwhile, GPCC President Girish Amonkar stated that Shraddha Amonkar has filed a caveat on the ward reservations, which has been registered with Supreme Court on Monday evening.
