ANC conducts 3 raids in Arambol, seizes charas worth Rs 35 lakh

The Anti Narcotics Cell of Goa Police on Saturday night cracked down on the active drug trade in Arambol, arresting three drug peddlers and seizing suspected charas worth approximately Rs 35 lakh.

The raids were conducted after trekking the movement of these peddlers for a few successive days. The entire team of ANC was in the field and raided one place after the other under guidance and  supervision of DySP Harishchandra Madkaikar and SP Mahesh Gaonkar. This is one of the largest quantities of narcotic substances seized in a day this year. 

The first raid was conducted at Dando Arambol, Pernem. Accused Chhatra Singh (36), a native of Uttarakhand, was caught for being found in illegal possession of 2.100 kgs of charas approximately worth Rs 10.5 lakh.

In the second raid, accused Chandan Singh (35), a native of Badmer, 

Rajasthan was nabbed for being found in illegal possession of 2.390 kgs of charas approximately worth Rs 11.95 lakh. 

The third raid resulted in the arrest of accused Raju Lama (35), a native of Bahang, Baruwa in Manali-Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. He was arrested and booked for being found in illegal possession of 2.500 kgs of charas approximately worth Rs12.50 lakh.


Austrian held for drugs worth Rs 1.2 lakh in Pernem

PERNEM: Pernem police arrested a 43-year-old Austrian national on charges of possessing drugs worth Rs 1.2 lakh at Thorlebag-Keri in Pernem on Sunday evening.

According to Pernem PI Jivba Dalvi, police received reliable information that an Austrian national was involved in illegal drug activities.

Accordingly, a police team was formed and a raid was conducted on Sunday evening and the accused, Stefan Hechenberger (43), was allegedly caught red-handed in possession of Charas worth Rs 1.2 lakh at Thorlebag-Keri.

The accused has been arrested under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of NDPS Act and is currently in police custody.

Police said the accused has a history of drug peddling and was earlier arrested by Goa Police in 2008.

Further investigation is in progress under the supervision of SDPO Gajanan Prabhudessai and North SP Ukrisht Prasoon.
