In a follow-up to the seizure of dimethyltryptamine (DMT) earlier this week, the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) sleuths seized another consignment of DMT worth Rs 12 lakh at the instance of the accused arrested in connection with the earlier bust.

On October 15, ANC arrested a South Indian and confiscated cocaine, charas and a commercial quantity of DMT from the rented premises where he resided at Anjuna. The total value of the haul was estimated at Rs 2.5 lakh in the international market.

After a thorough interrogation, the accused, currently in police custody, led the investigation team to a rented house where a search was conducted. The ANC recovered 120 grams of DMT valued at Rs 12 lakh and another 50 grams of charas worth Rs 25,000.

“Further investigations are underway to trace both forward and backward linkages and more arrests are expected,” the ANC official said.

As per the ANC, these hallucinogenic drugs are usually shipped from South America and found at spiritual ceremonies called Ayahuasca, which incidentally is practiced in some areas of Goa’s hinterland. It is generally mixed with the crushed plant herbs.
