Animal lover and wildlife rescuer Vijay Singh on Saturday skipped office and spent his own money to rescue a grievously injured cow to a shelter for medical treatment.
Singh also appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to set up a 24x7 helpline to rescue injured animals.
"I was leaving from my room to the office and I noticed a deeply wounded cow along the road. The cow was grievously injured and bleeding profusely and lying unconscious. When I enquired, someone said that a heavy vehicle hit the cow the previous night and her leg was injured. I immediately called up the fire brigade for assistance to rescue the animal but they said they can only lift the animal but don't have a spare vehicle to shift it. I frantically called another NGO but they said their office opens only at 9.30 am and presently has no drivers nor vehicles," Said Singh.
"I called various departments and authorities but I did not get any proper response and finally, I skipped my work and called for a rickshaw and arranged for a labourer, and with the help of the fire brigade, moved the injured cow in the rickshaw and shifted her to the PFA shelter in Mangor for treatment. The cow would have died if there was no timely help and being an animal rescuer, I face a lot of issues with no timely response from NGOs and departments," said Singh.
