In yet another suspected case of drug overdose, a young female tourist was put on a life support system in a private hospital located on the outskirts of Panaji.
The woman along with her male partner was on a holiday to Goa when they were informed about an alleged rave party in Vagator. Sources told The Goan that the couple checked in at a luxury beach resort in Calangute and stepped out for sightseeing before attending the party where she reportedly consumed drugs.
"The night club in Vagator hosted a large-scale event on November 19, which started around 10:30 pm till 5 am the next morning. The couple attended the party where, according to an eyewitness, she had the urge to try party drugs," a reliable source, who is in the know of the incident, revealed.
After the party, the couple returned to the resort where the woman's health deteriorated.
She was rushed to the Primary Health Centre where the doctors referred her to Goa Medical College and Hospital. Sources said she was instead shifted to the private hospital for urgent medical attention.
"The doctors admitted her to the ICU and have put her on a ventilator. It was at this point that police were informed about the case," sources said adding that police investigation has begun.
The party was allegedly in the coastal village where some officers were attending their superior's farewell party in another reputed restaurant.
This is the fourth case of suspected drug overdose within three months. A Puducherry student who was on a long Independence Day weekend to Goa was the first fatality. He died of alleged overdose after attending a party in Anjuna. BJP leader Sonali Phogat was the second victim as she too became a victim of the lethal substance at a party in the infamous Curlies shack on August 23.
In September, a student from Andhra Pradesh Devineni Trilok Chaudhary was fortunate to have survived a drug overdose. He along with two of his two friends arrived in Goa on a short vacation on September 20. En route to Calangute via a tourist taxi, where they had booked a hotel for their stay, the trio was offered cocaine by the driver. Chaudhary consumed about 1 gm of cocaine but soon complained of uneasiness after which he was rushed to the GMCH. He survived and on recovery escaped to his home village to evade police action.
