Although there are over 7,500 apprentice opportunities both in government departments (2,700) and private companies (4885) which are to be handed out on a first come first served basis, only 1200 candidates from Goa have registered and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is now asking sarpanchas and panchas to chip in to raise awareness.
"Everyone should make efforts so than 10,000 unemployed Goans participate in the apprenticeship scheme by July 15," Sawant said even as he appealed to panchas, and sarpanchas to take an active role to enroll unemployed youth from their areas.
Sawant was interacting with these local body representatives as well as youth across Goa with regard to the scheme. He said, it is a one-year programme and an opportunity for those who have dropped out of their academic journey.
Also, those who have completed their education but are unemployed can take advantage of this on-job training opportunity so that they can hone skills and be employable.
The Chief Minister's Apprenticeship Programme has approximately 10,000 opportunities, 5,000 each in the government and private sectors.
The Chief Minister said, if the programme works well, more than 10,000 youth will be engaged in the training.
He said, of each panchayat takes the initiative to enroll at least 100 candidates, no one in Goa will stay idle at home after studying.
Sawant has also instructed 'Swayampoorna Mitras' to fan out in their respective areas to register youth for this scheme.
He also said that a 'Learn and Earn' scheme will be launched shortly. This new scheme will give youth the opportunity to learn by working and to work while learning.
