The Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC) has shut the foot overbridge (FOB) on the Aquem side of Margao railway station after it was declared unsafe for public use. Although the KRC has built another foot overbridge connecting the Aquem side to the station a little distance away from the closed FOB, sources said the shutdown may cause inconvenience to passengers and other stakeholders.

Speaking to The Goan, KRC senior official Baban Ghatge said the decision was taken based on a structural stability report submitted by the Goa College of Engineering and an ITI. “The report shows that the foot overbridge is unsafe for public use,” he said.

Ghatge said the KRC has proposed constructing a new foot overbridge after demolishing the unsafe structure. He further said the closure will not affect passenger movement, as an alternative foot overbridge has already been built a few metres away.

“The new FOB will handle passenger movement, though people may have to walk a little extra,” he said.
