Aquem-Margao death registered as murder; accused arrested

The police has finally registered the death of Sachit Borkar, a resident of Aquem-Margao as murder.

In this connection, the police has arrested accused Laxman Chawan @ Pika, a resident of Moti Dongor, Margao for murder. 

The accused has been remanded to six days police custody by the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao on Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police, South, Pankaj Kumar Singh informed that the police registered Sachit Borkar’s death as murder following a complaint lodged by Suraj Virdikar, Calconda-Margao stating that in the wee hours of July 26 at the Aquem side of Konkan Railway Station in front of omlet rassa kiosk of Renuka @ lambi, the accused Laxman Chavan @ Pika of Moti Dongor, assaulted the victim, aged 47 years during an altercation.

The SP stated that the victim was pushed and assaulted with a chair on the head causing injuries on the head due to which he became unconscious. He was first rushed to the Hospicio hospital, from where he was shifted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim where he breathed his last while undergoing treatment on Monday evening.

Offence has been registered under Section 302 of IPC by PI Sachin Narvekar of Margao Town Police Station. Accused Laxman Chavan @ Pika has been arrested. Further investigation is in progress.

Residents of Aquem and Malbhat, besides other parts of Margao had come to the Margao police station on Monday evening, strongly suspecting that Sachit Borkar’s death was not on account of a road accident, but due to assault by the accused persons.
