OLD GOA

Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao on Sunday blessed the Diocesan Covid Care Centre at the St Joseph Vaz Spirituality Centre in Old Goa, invoking blessings of Almighty God on the modest initiative of the archdiocese.

The Diocesan Covid Care Centre will cater to symptomatic mild cases in need of isolation and quarantine facility so that others in the family can be safe. The Centre has a provision for 40 beds with an additional 10 beds with oxygen facility.

Earlier, while celebrating Mass at the St Joseph Vaz Spirituality Centre, Archbishop Ferrao reminded the volunteers that selfless, sacrificial and all embracing love are divine traits and that, all those who understand love from this perspective participate with the divine.

Archbishop Ferrao thanked all the doctors, nurses, volunteers, religious and priests who have willingly and selflessly offered to help in serving humanity.

Others present on the occasion included Director of St Joseph Vaz Spirituality Centre Fr Henry Falcao, Financial Administrator of the Archdiocese Fr Noel D’Costa, Executive Secretary of Council for Social Justice and Peace Fr Savio Fernandes and Caritas Goa Director Fr Maverick Fernandes.

The Diocesan Covid Care Centre has been supported by a team of doctors, nurses and volunteers to provide assistance to patients. Meals and other support will be provided free to the patients during their recuperation.

Similar Covid care centres are also being set up at some parishes in the archdiocese, to provide care and support to mild cases in need of isolation and quarantine facility.

Fr Maverick Fernandes has also appealed for the formation of a Covid Care Team (CCT) of volunteers in parishes/chapels in the archdiocese to provide assistance to people in need, so that the Church can bring some solace to people in these trying circumstances of their life.
