Travellers from Belagavi who were returning back to Belagavi early Sunday morning were left stranded for some time after a tree fell on the road at Chorla Ghat. According to people who were travelling back to Belagavi, the tree had fallen near Swapnagandha Resort and had blocked the road for over an hour.
“At around 7 am today about 50 vehicles were left stranded on the Goa side of the Chorla Ghat as the fallen tree had blocked the entire road. Large number of Goans were travelling back to Belagavi. However the traffic was blocked for some time after which the commuters themselves volunteered in clearing the tree," Praneeta Shinde, who was travelling to Belagavi early Sunday morning said.
Meanwhile, scores of Goans on Sunday were seen returning to Belagavi due to the 15-day curfew imposed in Goa from Sunday and the total lockdown imposed by Karnataka from Monday.
“The temperatures in Goa are soaring and straying home amid the heat and humidity for a fortnight seems to be a very difficult task. The Covid situation too is scary. Moreover cost of living without any work in Goa too is unaffordable; hence several Belgaumites residing in Goa have decided to come back to Belagavi where the climate is much soothing. We will return to Goa only when the the situation improves,” a group of youngsters who reached Belagavi on their bikes told The Goan.
Meanwhile, the district authorities have made arrangements to impose a strict lockdown from Monday morning. All the interstate border posts have been sealed.
