Sao Jose de Areal once again witnessed an uproar after local villagers intercepted a vehicle for what they called as transporting cement waste for dumping in the village.
Maina-Curtorim police station in-charge, PI Arun Desai said the police have brought the vehicle to the police station for verification. The vehicle owner has been told to produce documents, and to answer questions such as the source of the cement waste and how the vehicle had displayed a board that is on duty for the electricity department.
Social activist Freddy Travaso informed that the villagers stopped the vehicle when it was carrying bags containing the cement waste. “Since the vehicle was displaying a board that it on duty for the government, the villagers stopped the vehicle to find out how the vehicle on duty for government was carrying the cement waste,” he said.
He added: “We immediately contacted the Maina-Curtorim police to inspect the vehicle and to attach it for further investigations.”
When The Goan contacted Maina-Curtorim police station in-charge, PI Arun Desai to shed light on the vehicle, he said the vehicle was carrying the cement waste. “We have asked the owners to get the documents to explain from where the vehicle collected the waste and where it was being transported. Further action will be initiated based on the reply from the owner,” PI Arun added.
Last month, Areal villagers had stopped a LPG carrying van while it was in the process of dumping mixed waste in the village. The villagers had later made the labourers to reload the mixed waste in the vehicle and called the police at the site for further investigations.
