Flooding of the Arlem-Raia traffic junction came back to haunt the authorities, including the PWD as the entire area lay flooded on Friday, disrupting vehicular traffic.
The Arlem-Raia traffic junction turns waterlogged during monsoons with rain water accumulating at the traffic junction disrupting traffic. The situation was no different this monsoon with the traffic junction inundated with water on Friday evening.
When contacted, Raia Sarpanch Judas Quadros pointed out that the drains and storm water nullah carrying water towards the Arlem-Raia junction were all desilted by the PWD after inspection by the local MLA Reginaldo Lourenco. “Somehow, the water did not drain quickly as has been anticipated by the people, may be there’s some problem with the culvert at the junction,” he said.
Quadros further pointed out that the Water Resources Department had taken up the work of carrying out desilting a drain along the Arlem-Nuvem eastern bypass, but the work has not brought the desired effect on the ground.
He said the panchayat would write a letter to the PWD as well as the WRD to inspect the two places again and to conduct a study on the waterlogging at the Arlem-Raia junction.
