Efforts are on to get social worker Jeet Arolkar, who contested the recent Mandrem by-poll as an independent candidate and polled an impressive 9,500 votes, to join the Congress party.
When contacted, Arolkar confirmed that his supporters wanted him to join a national party.
“A lot of my workers who forced me to contest as an independent are now requesting that I join any of the national parties and hence, I may consider their request” said Arolkar, while speaking to The Goan.
The Congress party did not have a strong leader in Mandrem constituency and many Congress workers are trying to get Arolkar as well as former Superintendent of Police Umesh Gaokar to join the Congress.
“If Arolkar joins the Congress, it will a big boost to the party in Pernem taluka,” said a supporter of Arolkar.
