Aggrieved with frequent power failures in Siolim, residents have threatened to take a morcha and gherao the electricity department and the power minister if the issue is not resolved within eight days.

“We are giving a deadline of eight days to fix the electricity problems, failing which we will take a morcha and gherao the electricity department and minister,” said Shreha Dhargalkar, a resident of Oxel in a signed memorandum.

Seven others have also signed the memorandum made to the CEE on Wednesday.

The memorandum said the power department has increased tariff but failed to provide quality service.

“Due to frequent power cuts and sudden surge in electricity, many people in Siolim have lost  valuable electronic items such as laptops, ACs, TVs etc. Who is taking responsibility for this? Who will pay us compensation,” Dhargalkar questioned.

They said that students could not study and workers were suffering due to frequent power failures in the village.

The memorandum further said that complaints made to the department fall on deaf ears as concerned staff neglect the pleas of the consumers.

“Whenever we give a complaint, the replies we get is lack of staff, shortage of equipment and no support of higher authorities,” the memorandum said.

It may be recalled some residents of the village had on Saturday met the Assistant Engineer and discussed the issue of power cuts and lack of response of the concerned junior engineers.

They had also requested to shift the maintenance works of Siolim area to the Mapusa sub-station instead of Tuem.
