PERNEM
Pernem police nabbed a man and his wife in connection with the murder of his brother in Pernem on Monday.
The body of Sarvesh Khadapkar (30), had been found in a valley near the Pernem-Parsem main road at Varpem-Pernem on Tuesday morning. Pernem police believed Sarvesh had been murdered elsewhere and the body brought in a vehicle and dumped at Varpem.
Since the mouth of the deceased was stuffed with a cloth, police could not get a clear photo of the deceased.
Police then began verifying CCTV cameras in the vicinity and border check posts were alerted. Details about missing persons were also collected from all police stations and bordering areas of neighbouring states.
Police also began process of verifying all lodges, motels and hotels in the jurisdiction of Anjuna, Pernem and Calangute police stations.
On Wednesday, an autopsy was conducted and a clear photo of the deceased was obtained. Investigations later revealed that the deceased was Sarvesh Khadapkar of Guddem-Siolim.
Police then kept a watch on the residence of the deceased, who had been living with his elder brother, Sandesh (38) and his wife, Latika (28) and nabbed the couple as they were leaving the house with their belongings. The couple confessed to having murdered Sarvesh on Monday and dumping his body near the Pernem-Parsem main road.
It was revealed that Sarvesh had borrowed huge sums of money from his friends who frequently visited the Khadapkar residence to enquire about Sarvesh with his sister-in-law, Latika.
In order to avoid these frequent visits, Latika gave them his cellphone number. This enraged Sarvesh who confronted Latika and abused her, while tearing her clothes in front of Sandesh.
In the sudden provocation, Sandesh and Latika assaulted Sarvesh, leading to his death. Pernem Police is investigating the case under the supervision of Pernem PI Harish Madkaikar.
