Artificial pond a success for Visarjan ceremonies in Mapusa
MAPUSAThe artificial pond developedfor immersion of Ganesh idolsin Mapusa town has been ahuge success, with nearly 120Ganesh idols being immersedin the pond during the GaneshVisarjan ceremony.Most families in Mapusacelebrate Ganesh Chaturthifor one-and-half day andwould usually crowd at theTar river for the immersionceremonyHowever, due to increasingnumber of Covid cases inMapusa town and concernsabout crowds at the Tar Riverfor the Ganesh Visarjan, theMapusa Municipal Council(MMC) constructed an artificialpond in col
laborationwith Rotary Club of Mapusa,JCI Mapusa and Rotaract Clubof Mapusa.Some farmers had also vol-untarily come forward to givethe civic body an NOC to buildthe pond.On Sunday evening, thepond was used to immersearound 118 Ganesh idols,while many opted to conductthe Ganesh Visarjan ceremonyin nearby wells.“In order to avoid crowding,the MMC with the help of socialclubs constructed the artificialpond available, whichproved to be a great success.“We received very positiveresponse to this initiative sofar as around 118 Ganesh idolshave been immersed duringthe Ganesh Visarjan ceremony.Besides, 20 volunteers ofthese social clubs also assistedthe devotees in the ceremony,”said MMC ChairpersonRyan Braganza.Added PralhadKavlekar:The concept of the artificialpond is new and unique notonly in Mapusa, but also inthe entire State. The MMC andsocial clubs did a great job inorganising and managing theentire process, for the convenienceof locals.”“We too participated in theGanesh Visarjan ceremony atthis pond,” said Kavlekar.
