The International Purple Fest 2025 is celebrating the remarkable talents of artists with disabilities (PwDs) whose creativity and courage transcend physical challenges. From paintings and embroidery to handcrafted works, these artists are proving that passion can transform limitations into art.
The festival in Panaji provides an inclusive platform for artists of all abilities. Watching them create is inspiring ” many face visual or mobility challenges, yet their focus and skill turn every work into a symbol of perseverance and pride.
Anu Jain from Bengaluru, a gold medallist in fine arts, finds inspiration in nature, especially roses. Beginning her artistic journey in childhood, she now exhibits nationwide and mentors others. Maharashtra’s 19-year-old Kiran Yajuvendra Mahajan represents the next generation of talent. He began drawing in first grade and has since earned several awards, crediting “consistency and practice” for his success.
From Margao, visually impaired teacher Josvin D’Souza imparts English, Braille, and crafts to students. “Though I cannot see, I have never let that define me,” she says. Similarly, Fulrani Kinlekar from Pernem, born without hands and legs, excels in embroidery, computer training, and calling work. “Determination can help achieve anything,” she says.
Adding to the spirit of inclusion, the Museum of Goa’s Godhadi Project ” a 25-metre-long collaborative artwork made from 2,000 recycled textile pieces by students ” reflects unity and creativity.
Purple Fest 2025 stands as a tribute to resilience and talent, showing that creativity knows no limits.
