Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday assured that the government will deploy around 50 newly appointed nurses to the South Goa District Hospital to address the staffing challenges arising from the recent increase in bed capacity from 350 to 500.
He further pledged that the government will prioritise augmenting the number of doctors at the hospital.
Speaking to the media on the manpower issue plaguing the South Goa District Hospital on the sidelines of the programme on World Mental Day held at the district hospital on Friday, the Health Minister said he is aware of the manpower issues plaguing the South Goa District Hospital after the bed strength was increased from 350 to 500.
“The government has recruited around 100 nurses, out of which we will post 40-50 nurses to the South Goa District Hospital. The posting should take place by next week,” he said.
Referring to the posting of medical officers and doctors to the district hospital to tide over the doctor shortage, Rane said the government has recruited some medical officers, adding that doctor selection process is presently underway. “Once the recruitment is completed, we will post the doctors and medical officers to the South Goa District Hospital,” he added.
The Health Minister’s assurance to the media to deploy manpower including doctors and nurses at the district hospital should hopefully allay fears of the district hospital administration and staff about the fate of the promise to deploy additional manpower after the hospital bed strength was raised from 350 to 500 beds a month and half ago.
Ayush hospital at Monte Hill
Meanwhile, the Health Minister has said he would inspect work on the Ayush Hospital at the Monte Hill before taking the decision on its inauguration. He said Margao MLA and PWD Minister Digambar Kamat and he will inspect the Ayush hospital project and take a call on the inauguration.
Saying that the expectations of the people of Goa on the healthcare system has grown manifold over the years, Rane said, the government is trying to give its best to the people with accountability.
