PORVORIM
Voicing dismay over the delay in completing the 15 MLD water treatment plant in Porvorim, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said he has recently written to PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar to direct the PWD not to release fresh water connections to new and large residential complexes and commercial establishments till water problem is resolved.
“I wrote to Pauskar on October 12 highlighting the acute water crisis faced by some residents of Porvorim constituency. The water treatment plant would have been an ideal solution but work on this project is progressing at snail’s pace and it does not appear it will be commissioned anytime soon.”
“I have requested that fresh water connections should not be released to new and large residential complexes and commercial establishments till the problem is resolved,” said Khaunte.
Commenting on the recent issue of water supply to a slum at Halliwada from the overhead water tank at Abhinav Housing Complex, Khaunte said water was being supplied to Gopalnagar, Housing board and neighbouring areas.
“Since these areas do not get adequate water supply, he had directed the PWD to keep on hold the release of water supply to Halliwada. Surprisingly, the local BJP unit made this a political issue and pressurised the PWD to release water supply to Halliwada.”
“Now, residents of Gopalnagar, Housing Board and neighbouring areas are experiencing acute water shortage,” Khaunte added.
