The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Goa Circle, has issued a notice to the Exposition Commissioner over the infrastructure that was allowed to be temporarily built for the event and which has not been removed till date.
The notice, which has been issued by the Superintending Archaeologist, has directed that the temporary infrastructure be removed on immediate basis.
The notice has pointed out that permission was issued to the Goa State Public Works Department to carry out certain works in view of the Exposition, subject to certain terms of condition.
"The said department was also requested to give an undertaking before commencing works as per Clause 7 of the permission. The said condition was not complied with. Further, vide Clause No 1 of the said permission, the said department was also required to remove these works (except the permanent toilet block at Se Cathedral) upon conclusion of the Exposition," the notice states.
"The said works have also not been removed so far as per the inspection carried out by this office," the notice further adds with photographs of the infrastructure attached as proof.
Among the infrastructure that has been earmarked for removal includes all infrastructure that has been put up as part of the Pilgrims Village, Exposition Secretariat, barracks built in laterite as well as bamboo, toilet blocks, garbage collection sheds, etc.
"A complaint in this regard has also been received from John B Mascarenhas. Hence, it is requested to take due cognisance of this letter and facilitate the removal of these works on an immediate basis," the notice reads.
A copy of the notice has been also marked to North Goa Collector, North Goa SP, Tiswadi Mamlatdar, Old Goa PI, Se Old Goa panchayat secretary, Se Old Goa Sarpanch, with a copy also provided to the complainant, John B Mascarenhas.
