Mandrem police have arrested four persons on charges of assaulting three tourists from Vengurla-Maharashtra at Arambol on Wednesday evening.
According to Mandrem police, Richard D’Souza (32) of Varchemaad Vadi in Vengurla complained that Brijesh Vast and three others abused and assaulted him and his friends, Anand Dicholkar and Allwin Fernandes causing serious injuries to them at about 6 pm at Bhoma in Paliem-Pernem.
Richard D’Souza also alleged that the accused persons also damaged his friend’s scooter and mobile phone, causing them loss of about Rs 50,000.
The three injured persons were initially moved to the Primary Health Center in Tuem and were later shifted to the District Hospital in Mapusa. Late Wednesday night, they were shifted to the Goa Medical College Hospital in Bambolim for further treatment.
Mandrem police registered a case against the accused under Sections 352, 118(2), 324 (4) r/w 3(5) of BNS. Police later arrested arrest Brijesh Vast (30), Floyd Dsouza (34), Sunil Gawada (43) all from Arambol and Diptesh Polji (26) of Korgao-Pernem in this connection. Mandrem PSI Jaydeep Palyekar is conducting further investigation.
Sources have, however, stated that the three tourists were allegedly drinking in the open at Bhoma, when they were confronted by a group of locals. An argument broke out between both groups, leading to the assault on the tourists.
