While the police are yet to establish the motive in the alleged murder of the Assagao man, the prime accused in the case, Pramod alias Babu Khorjuvekar has confessed that there was a scuffle between him and the deceased Allan D’Souza on the fateful night after which the deceased suddenly collapsed.
Police, however, do not want to take any chances and are waiting for the autopsy report and the analysis of the viscera of the deceased to know the exact cause of death.
Khorjuvekar and his friend Shirish Govekar are presently in police custody.
Police sources privy to the investigation informed that the deceased was known to Khorjuvekar and on that particular night had gone to the house of the prime accused where they got into an altercation which led to a scuffle between them.
“In the scuffle the deceased suddenly collapsed to the ground sending fear down the spine of the accused. Acknowledging that since the incident happened in his house which could lend him into problem, the accused called his friend Shirish (second arrested accused) in bid to get rid of the body of the deceased,” a police official informed.
The accused confessed that along with his friend they made the deceased sit on the scooter but on the way the rider lost control of the two-wheeler and that’s how the deceased fell off near the Baga bridge and both the accused then fled from the spot. This part has been captured on the CCTV camera which is with the police and the scooter used to transport the deceased has also been attached.
The accused also brought the bike of the deceased and parked it around 100 metres away from where his body was found.
“We cannot rely on the confessional statement of the accused. Since the autopsy report has not mentioned the cause of death we are waiting for the report and the viscera analysis to know the exact cause of death to take the case forward,” a senior police officer informed.
“There is a possibility that he may have been poisoned to death or it could also be due to alcohol or something else that he may have consumed. Exact cause of death has to come,” he added.
Incidentally, the post-mortem has been done on the body but the report has been reserved and the viscera of the deceased has been preserved for analysis.
Anjuna Police had initially registered the case as unnatural death but three days later based on a complaint of the father of the deceased the case was registered as murder.
