Goa exported more than 45,000 tonnes of seafood during the financial year 2024“25, with markets in Southeast Asia, China and the European Union emerging as the main destinations, according to figures from the Marine Products Export Development Authority.
Official data tabled in the Assembly on Thursday showed that the State exported 45,469 tonnes of marine products worth Rs 788.81 crore during the year.
Fresh fish made up the largest share of exports, with 35,913 tonnes valued at Rs 504.60 crore. Squid exports totalled 5,233 tonnes worth Rs 146.61 crore, while frozen shrimp shipments stood at 1,951 tonnes valued at Rs 78.58 crore.
Exports also included 831 tonnes of cuttlefish worth Rs 27.22 crore and 1,541 tonnes of other fish varieties valued at Rs 31.80 crore.
Trade data showed that Southeast Asia remained Goa’s biggest market, importing 37,779 tonnes of seafood valued at Rs 596.20 crore, accounting for most shipments from the State.
Exports to China reached 3,531 tonnes worth Rs 65.53 crore, while the European Union imported 1,279 tonnes valued at Rs 44.04 crore. The Middle East accounted for 1,824 tonnes worth Rs 46.81 crore.
Smaller consignments were also sent to Japan and the United States, which together imported more than 110 tonnes of seafood valued at over Rs 6.6 crore, according to the export data.
The government clarified that the figures provided by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), a statutory body under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, may also include fish brought from other States and exported through Goa.
