MARGAO
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas has said he has tabled four Private Members resolution on the protection to the traditional tourism stakeholders, even as he said he does not except much from the ensuing Budget Session other than a “jumla budget” ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The AAP MLA said if the government is really serious in meting out justice to the people of Goa, including the beneficiaries of Ladli Laxmi Scheme, DSS scheme, pension scheme for the seafarers, etc, then it should clear the arrears to the beneficiaries since the time they were eligible for the scheme.
Venzy pointed out that he has tabled resolutions for the protection of the water sports operators and the tourist taxi operators since these businesses are being run by the Niz Goemkars.
He also said the traditional shack business has been promoted by the locals along the State’s coastal belt and nothing should be done to pave the entry of outsiders in the business of Goans.
The Benaulim MLA said he has also moved a private member’s bill on the protection of the traditional fishing community from Benaulim. He pointed out that the traditional fishermen have been facing hardships during the monsoons to anchor their fishing gear, including the boats and fishing nets. “We have demanded that the government allot the land acquired for the defunct Benaulim prawn hatchery for the fishermen to anchor their boats and fishing gear,” he said.
