After the uproar on the issue last week, the gram sabha of Raia village panchayat on Sunday discussed the budget estimates for the financial year 2023-24.
The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Judas Quadros placed the budget estimates before the gram sabha for discussion after effecting a host of changes.
The sarpanch later told the media that the budget estimates were approved by the gram sabha after discussions. He said the panchayat had made provision in the budget for the renovation of the panchayat hall.
Similarly, he said the budget estimates have made provision for the maintenance of the football grounds, which is proposed to be taken up under the tribal sub-plan.
To a question on the garbage management, the sarpanch informed that the panchayat presently collects dry waste from the households thrice a week. He said the panchayat has a plan to start wet waste collection in the village, but the plan would depend on the availability of land. “The panchayat is looking out for suitable land in the village which could be utilised for the handling of wet waste. No sooner the land is available, the panchayat will start wet waste collection,” Judas said.
The Raia gram sabha on last Sunday had witnessed an uproar after gram sabha members picked holes in the budget estimates for the financial year 2023-24, forcing the sarpanch to rectify the discrepancies and come out with new estimates for discussions at the gram sabha.
