In a tragic incident, Assonora Panchayat member Nilesh Naik lost his life in a self-accident on Sunday evening.
Naik, who represented Ward 7 of the Assonora Panchayat, met with the fatal accident while returning home from Sirsaim on his Bullet motorcycle.
According to police reports, the accident occurred around 5 pm as Naik was heading towards Assonora.
He reportedly lost control of his bike and crashed into the cement compound wall of his house.
The impact was severe, causing significant damage to the motorcycle, including a broken shock absorber tube, a shattered front headlight, and a twisted front tyre.
Naik was immediately rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, police conducted a panchanama and later shifted the body to Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim for further procedures.
Sources revealed that Naik had attended a gram sabha meeting earlier in the day. Upon learning about the accident, panchayat members and family members rushed to the hospital.
The Colvale police have registered the case and are conducting further investigations into the incident.
