Asst registrar of coop societies slammed for remarks on ‘no power’

MARGAO

Beleaguered depositors of Visionaries Urban Cooperative Society directed their ire at the Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, South zone for his reported remark that he has no power to initiate action against the society staffers not reporting for work.

Some of the depositors and two staffers of the Society Colva branch also came face to face over allegations and counter-allegations over the deposits.

Newly appointed administrator, Maria Vanda Gomes also directed her ire at the Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Pundalik Parab for reportedly saying that he has no power to initiate action against the staff of the Visionaries society for not reporting to work. “I called up Parab to draw his attention that some of the society staff did not turn up for work today (Tuesday) despite his note warning them stern action. Parab, however, expressed his helplessness in initiating action against the erring staff, saying he has no powers to act,” she said.

An agitated Vanda Gomes called up the Personal Assistant to Minister for Cooperation, Govind Gaude to inform him about the stand of the Assistant Registrar, South Zone. “I fail to understand why the Assistant Registrar cannot initiate action against the staffers. Instead of helping the depositors to get their money back, no help is forthcoming from the Assistant Registrar,” she added.

Many depositors, including a foreign national, was seen outside the Colva branch, with the hope of getting their deposits back. The foreigner claimed that he had invested around Rs 70 lakhs in society.
