Liqour flowed freely on the world famous Colva beach as nothing seemed to have stopped the New Year revelers, mostly domestic tourists, from gulping bottles and cans of beer right on beach on Wednesday.
That the iconic beach has been craving for attention on the infrastructure front became evident once again with visitors answering nature’s call right in the bushes with the promised toilets and changing rooms yet to fall in place till date. A couple of mobile toilets installed by the authorities near the entrance to the beach failing to meet the growing requirements of the thousands of visitors.
A visit to Colva beach on Wednesday morning revealed that thousands of domestic visitors were celebrating the New Year festivities, with many ushering in the new year with a swim, while many others gulping down cans and bottles of beer.
Though the State had enacted a law, banning consumption of liqour in public place and the authorities sounding warnings to the violators the ground reality was totally different at the Colva beach on Wednesday. One could find groups of young visitors armed with cans and bottles freely consuming beer without any hindrance from any law enforcing authorities. That empty cans and bottles were abandoned right on the beach only gave an indication that liqour and beer that flowed overnight continued till the morning on Wednesday.
The beach stretch was littered with trash and empty bottles and cans and till noon, there was no sign of the workers cleared the mess on the beach.
Meanwhile, after a spate of bag snatching and thefts on the Colva beach on Tuesday night, alert residents of Colva nabbed a native of Kerala and handed him over to the police on suspicion. The police are trying to find out whether he had any major role in the spate of thefts on Tuesday night.
