The eight-day Atirudra Swahakar Mahayajna organised by the Dhavalikar family at the premises of Shri Mahalakshmi Temple, Bandora, commenced on Monday with the participation of Power Minister and MLA Sudin Dhavalikar, along with Mithil Dhavalikar and Jyoti Dhavalikar.
Mithil Dhavalikar said the religious ceremony has been organised for the welfare of the people of Goa and world peace. The Mahayajna is being held to mark the birth centenary of late Madhavrao Dhavalikar, popularly known as Appa, and as part of the family's religious activities.
The concluding ceremony will be held on September 7. During the eight-day programme, devotees can participate in various religious activities, including Ashtavadhan Seva, Havan, Mantra Japa, afternoon Aarti and Mahaprasad.
The Atirudra Mahayajna is regarded as one of the most powerful forms of worship of Lord Shiva and is traditionally performed with prayers for peace, prosperity and the welfare of humanity.
The organisers said the ritual is intended to promote spiritual well-being, social harmony and righteousness, while seeking blessings for Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. It also includes prayers for the removal of negativity and evil tendencies from society and for balance in nature and prosperity.
