Sources said the office of the Civil Supplies Director has initiated an inquiry into the week-long delay by the Salcete Civil Supplies office in lodging an FIR when the Benaulim gas pilferage had come to light on July 6. Both the Civil Supplies Inspector and the Sub-inspector attached to Salcete taluka stand transferred and the inquiry ordered by the Civil Supplies Director, Mahesh Korjuvekar is expected to throw light on the LPG gas pilferage issue.
In the meantime, GOACAN has requested the district Collector, South Swapnil Naik to call a meeting of the various agencies connected with the delivery of LPG cylinders and monitoring of the same, namely HP Gas, Bharat Gas and Indane, Department of Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs, Department of Legal Metrology and Director of Fire and Emergency Services.
GOACAN coordinator Roland Martins drew the attention of the District Collector to the July 6 incident at Benaulim wherein local residents had detected delivery men allegedly pilfering gas from a domestic cylinder into a commercial one. He also drew the attention of the district collector to the seizure of faulty and improper weighing machines from the LPG delivery vans. "All these developments have shaken the confidence of the consumers in the vigilance and monitoring role of the various government agencies," he said.
Authorities told to review delivery of LPG cylinders
Against the backdrop of the probe initiated by the Director of Civil Supplies into the delay in lodging an FIR in the Benaulim gas pilferage episode, consumer rights organizations have knocked the doors of the district collector, with a plea to call for a meeting for an urgent review of the delivery of LPG cylinders at the doorsteps of consumers.
