A delegation under the banner of Rashtra Premi Nagrik called on the South Goa district authorities on Wednesday with a demand to ban the proposed grand conference organised by the Popular Front of India (PFI) at the Lohia Maidan, Margao on October 29 at 3 pm.
The delegation warned that the district authorities will be solely responsible if any untoward or communal incident takes place during or after the conference.
In the two-page memorandum, the citizens claimed that the Centre is planning to ban the Popular Front of India as per the inputs submitted by the NIA for its role in alleged anti-social activities.
In Goa, the citizens pointed out that the very same organisation had started communal activities by putting up posters instigating Muslims to observe black day on December 6 to commemorate Babri Demolition Day.
"There is peace in the society. By holding a huge Muslim conference in Goa, they are allegedly trying to defend links with elements threatening the security of the State and setting bad precedents detrimental to the society," the memorandum said.
The PFI had called the grand conference at the Lohia Maidan on Sunday to refuse the baseless allegations by the right wing forces through the national media. The PFI has maintained that the growing popularity and the organisation's work of uplifting the marginalised and downtrodden section of the society has become the thorn in the eyes of fascist regime.
